Plants Map Update: August 2014

PlantsMap_WordFlower350 Happy August! We have a few items we wanted to share with you on our growing developments at Plants Map.

Individual profiles have been enhanced to allow you to include your own gardening ‘resume’, your profile picture and a location so your gardens can be included on our maps.

We have also added a new search box in the top navigation, a revised About Us page and a new Help section. We have also made it easier to learn about our Plants Map Tags and how they connect you and your garden visitors to your plants.

Before we get into the details of what has been going on here for the past month, we want to send a special ‘Thank You’ to the investors who funded our initial seed round. We are currently putting the money to work to further develop the site and do it more rapidly!

Did you receive a Plants Map Tag Surprise?

We randomly picked a few plants (and their owners) to receive Plants Map Tags. It was our way of saying thank you to users that are helping us grow Plants Map by adding plants. Here are a few of the plants that received a Plants Map Tag surprise in August:

The tags were so well received (and thanks for the tweets, posts and unboxing photos!) that we decided to pick a few more plants next month! So, start growing your gardens with plants and you could get a surprise next month too!

What are the best labels for trees, shrubs and plants?

We’re now selling and manufacturing two sizes of plant labels. Our customers are giving them rave reviews! The smaller size is called our Plants Map Tag ($4 each) and the larger size we call Plants Map Signs ($10 each).

August 26: Introduction to Plants Map

If you are in the Fredericksburg (Virginia) area, we invite you to come out to a Plants Map presentation on ‘Fingertip Gardening.’ Plants Map will be the guest presenter at the Master Gardener Association of the Central Rappahannock Area’s August 26 Salem Church Talks meeting. We will give a demonstration of how to use the site and show how users are adding their organizations, gardens and plants. Please share this invite and make plans to join us for an Introduction to Plants Map – Fingertip Gardening.

Is Your Garden On The Map?

All profiles and gardens now include geo-location fields so that you can add your profile, organization and gardens to the map. Organizations now have a custom profile map too, so when others connect to their network, those connections will show on the organization’s map. We will soon be launching custom maps for individual profiles soon.
