AAS Winners: All-America Selections has announced the first 2021 AAS Winners for the gardening season: Squash Goldilocks and Celosia Kelos® Candela Pink. Learn more about these new 2021 AAS winners.
Botanical Name Updates: As we continue to work on adding Core Plants, we encounter botanical plant names that may need to be updated within your plant profiles. We don’t make these updates automatically, but will send you a request to update them first. We send this request, and make updates to our Core Plants botanical names, when we see a concurrence between IPNI, Plants of the World Online (KEW), and Wikispecies (Wikipedia). - Calamintha nepeta subsp. nepeta is now Clinopodium nepeta subsp. nepeta
- Perovskia atriplicifolia (known as Russian Sage) is now Salvia yangii
- Celosia spicata is now Deeringia spicata
Garden for Wildlife Photo Contest: From August 7th to October 18th, join the 3rd Annual Garden for Wildlife Photo Contest. Every person who enters not only honors their own work, but also helps support the conservation mission of the National Wildlife Federation, which is dedicated to saving wildlife species and their habitats.
ANCA Virtual Summit: The Association of Nature Centers invites you to join their online workshops, discussions, and more at their ANCA 2020 Virtual Summit from September 14-17th.
PHS Flower Show: Preparations are underway for a new outdoor location and time of year for the 2021 Philadelphia Flower Show. Details will be announced in the early fall. To keep up-to-date on plans throughout the year, visiting PHSonline.org.
SciStarter Education Resources: SciStart, an online community dedicated to citizen science, has curated an Education Resource page to support a variety of projects and learning environments for educators, learners, parents, guardians, and more. Learn more at https://scistarter.org/Education.
Plants of Distinction: During the last 40 years, the UGA Trial Gardens has blossomed into one of the nation’s top plant breeding facilities and research resources for plant sciences. The Trial Gardens are open for viewing but you can also view their 2020 Plants of Distinction online and previous winners at https://ugatrial.hort.uga.edu.
“Year of” Educational Opportunity: New for 2021, NGB has introduced a “Year of” educational exhibit opportunity for public gardens that will feature the horticulture plant campaigns. For more information and to register your garden visit ngb.org/public-garden-special-exhibit-opportunity.
