Garden Bloggers Fling 2017 – A Capital Region Horticultural Experience

I recently had the opportunity to attend for the first time the Garden Bloggers Fling held this year in the Washington D.C., Virginia and Maryland area.  It was a pleasure to meet Jennifer Ebeling of 6ftmama.com and she invited me to participate in a re-cap of the garden tours on her Still Growing Gardening Podcast. I am excited to share with you those podcasts as well as a virtual tour of other website posts about this year’s Garden Bloggers Fling below.

The Capital Region Garden Bloggers Fling 2017

Hillwood Estate Cutting Garden

The GBFling 2017 garden tours included the public landscapes of Hillwood Estate, the Smithsonian Gardens on the National Mall, the U.S. Botanic Garden, The Franciscan Monastery, Brookside Gardens, and Meadowlark Gardens. Private tours included the landscapes of regional garden designers Barbara Kats, Debbie Friedman, Jeff Minnich, Scott Brinitzer, Peg Bier, and Linda Hostetler. More private tours included a 2 acre woodland garden, a 1790 historic Virginia estate, and a certified NWF wildlife habitat garden. We also enjoyed a visit to our fling organizer’s home gardens of Casa Maricopa.  To see photos of all these beautiful gardens, please visit my Garden Bloggers Fling 2017 Collection on Plants Map.

The welcome event was held at the Willowsford Community, Conservancy and Farm. This unique development in northern Virginia includes a working farm with a farm stand that is open to the public and a CSA for the residents to enjoy fresh produce, flowers and other goods. They also hold educational programs, farm tours, nature walks, and a happy gardening hour.  Learn more at willowsford.com/farm-conservancy.

Another stop on the tour was Stone Tower Winery where we enjoyed a fabulous lunch with gorgeous pastoral views of the vineyard. Located in Leesburg, Virginia, this family owned winery has gorgeous views, tasting rooms, tours, and hosts special events and parties. Learn more at www.stonetowerwinery.com.
